I was waiting to go into court when a man with a nasally voice said, “so, are those some sort of dread lock?” followed by a snort.  I was very polite and explained that yes, I do have dread locks.  He then proceeded to make fun of my hair and my appearance in general.  I was able to remain calm and polite, but inside I was screaming, “you have a fucking mullet!”  Should I be offended by a nerdy guy with 1980’s hair, or does having business in the front and a party in the back invalidate his opinion?  What do you all think?

Yesterday Trista helped Julia wipe her nose.  Julia exclaimed, “Mama, a booger!  Do you want to eat it?”

T and I rode with Dykes on Bikes this year.  As we were waiting to start the parade, we noticed our old roommate, C, on the bike in front of us.  C came over and said “hello” then proceeded to give us an unsolicited safety lesson on how to ride, where T should keep her feet, how hot the engine would get, etc.  It was really annoying and reminded me why C is no longer our roommate.  I should also note that C was alone, which jogged my memory of her once saying (about 6 years ago) , “I can’t understand why I am single, when people like the two of you can hook up.”   Yeah, C, I wonder why someone so kind, loving and tactful could still be single?  It baffles me. 

Then the parade started.  The police officers on the bikes ahead of us were doing really cool figure eights and other synchronized moves.  C started doing the same, except she was the only one of the Dykes on Bikes doing such things.  I felt it was a bit of a safety concern to have her weaving in and out of the parade and driving in circles around the rest of the bikes, but I was always aware of her presence because she was continually revving her engine in an attention seeking manner. 

 Then suddenly she wasn’t there anymore.  T and I finished the parade, parked and walked to watch the remainder of the parade.  As we were walking, C was being pushed out of the parade route because she ran out of gas!  She ran out of gas.  Ha, Ha, C ran out of gas!  I regret not taking a picture of the sad scene, but I was too busy trying not to laugh too loud and then have her demand her bread maker, Tina Turner CD, and hand made sushi plates back.  Am I petty and small for experiencing such glee?

Delaney is the newest member of our family. He’s very friendly and seems to love Julia!

Just a couple of months ago, T and I discovered lesbians in our back yard.  That’s right, there are lesbians in our back yard. Well, not quite, but we do have adjacent back yards.  The same month of the same year that we purchased our house, they purchased theirs.  We have been living her for 4 years without knowing that one street over, there is another lesbian couple with a child.  Anyway, we finally met, and one of the best parts (besides the fact that they seem very kind, don’t give off the fucked up vibe, and our children like each other) is they like Killer Bunnies.  Click here for a link to their blog.

Also, we found out today that some of our other friends bought a house only 6 blocks away.  T is at the Depot buying them a housewarming plant right now, while I am “working on my paper.”  This brings the total # of lesbian couples within walking distance up to 4, including us.  It makes me wonder if there are others we don’t know about.  This feeling of community makes the sucky political climate in SLC a tiny bit easier to cope with.

I hate writing, especially papers.  In fact, starting this blog was an attempt to procrastinate.  You see, I had this 10 page paper that was really, really overdue—like 4 weeks.  I worked it up to such a big deal, that I was paralyzed to the point that I couldn’t work on it.  At one point I decided it would be better to drop out of grad school and work in retail, rather than write one 10 page paper.  I also wasted a lot of time playing minesweeper and free cell.  However, eventually I was able to get the paper done, and I turned it in on the very last day of class.

There is a local coffee shop I frequented as a young adult.  I don’t go there very often now, but each time I do, I always run into at least one person I know.

This morning I rode my motorcycle up 800 South, and I went as fast as I could up the hill.  I was wearing a helmet, and I slowed briefly to make sure an intersection was clear, but it was just as much fun today as it was when I was 18.

As a teenager I was WILD.  I liked to go out drinking with a fake ID.  I lied to older women about my age in order to get them into bed with me.  However, I always had to go to their place, since I lived with my sister.

Once I did bring someone home with me, and my sister walked in on me in a very compromising position.  After that experience, my sister finally stopped denying my queerness.

 I hate peeps, but I love smashing them.  They look all cute and sugary, and it makes you think they will taste good.  But, when you put them in your mouth, they have a horrible chewy texture and taste nothing like the marshmallowy goodness you were expecting.

I was in a workshop today to learn how to do play therapy.  I had to give my rabbit puppet a voice in front of 30 strangers, and again I thought I should just drop out and work at Starbucks.  

I just left a training on new legislation affecting child welfare.  The cohabitation ammendment from 7 years ago is bad enough, but now we are expected to give preference to married couples for fostering and adopting.  Starbucks is looking more and more appealing each day.

Today only started a few hours ago, but it already sucks.  I just had a bad morning in court.  A client I have been working with for 2 years was sent to jail for 30 days and terminated from state custody.  What a rough welcome to adulthood.  On days like these I think I should quit and go work at Starbucks.  I imagine I wouldn’t be able to stress or feel sad about lattes.  Or, perhaps I could be a cake decorator.  Doesn’t that sound relaxing?
