You know you’re having a bad hair day when…
I was waiting to go into court when a man with a nasally voice said, “so, are those some sort of dread lock?” followed by a snort. I was very polite and explained that yes, I do have dread locks. He then proceeded to make fun of my hair and my appearance in general. I was able to remain calm and polite, but inside I was screaming, “you have a fucking mullet!” Should I be offended by a nerdy guy with 1980’s hair, or does having business in the front and a party in the back invalidate his opinion? What do you all think?

If he has a mullet, then he clearly has NO sense of fashion or style. He also must clearly be a moron to go out in public with the favored hair style for meth heads.
Yes his having a mullet invalidates anything he says. Especially about hair styles.

Someone wearing a mullet has no right to criticize another person’s appearance or taste. Period.

no one with a mullet is allowed to have an opinion.
EVER.

You know, I have a personal motto to never take hair advice from people with mullets. It hasn’t failed me yet.

I can’t say I disagree with what’s been said above. And/but let me recount what I’ve seen recently:
Two out of four females working at a hipster barber shop where I succumbed to getting my (nondready) locks trimmed were mulletized. I kept hoping hoping hoping that whoever became available was not one of the mullet girlz. They were stylish, sure, but on principle it felt wrong.
And then, this morning, as I was leaving Seattle, I noticed another hot young thang with a mullet. Granted, I’ve only spotted the young-cool mullet “phenomenon” in females, and perhaps that will be an important distinction if this gets out of hand.
Dear god. Could the mullet come back in style? Will any of us who once sneered at mullets across the spectrum, from the redneck male to the 80s dyke, at some point sport the hairstyle because it becomes chic?

In all my ramblings, I guess I didn’t really address your question. Should you be offended? Nah. Folks just don’t see that many dreadlocks in SLC, but the more they do, especially in contexts like court, with you in a professional role, the more it will help. Normalization. Ommmm.

This has nothing to do with your hair, but happy birthday!
